We all have to give some form of presentation at some point in our lives. Whether it’s speaking at a conference or presenting work to the rest of your college class it can be nerve wracking and stressful. Whatever type of presentation you are giving the same principles apply so we’ve thought up these five steps to keep in mind.
Preparation is key
You should make sure you know the topic you are talking about inside out. Rehearse what you are going to say and make sure you have enough knowledge to be able to answer any questions your audience may have
Grab the Audience’s Attention
During your presentation it’s important to make sure you have your audience’s attention. You can do this by starting off with a shocking fact, a funny joke or an interesting story.
It’s important to know what you’re going to say throughout the presentation, however, reading off notes word for word can be boring for the audience and won’t keep them engaged. Instead, make your speech more free-flowing as if you are having a conversation with the audience and only refer to your notes when you need to.
Speak with Passion
If you show a genuine interest in what you are talking about, it will reflect positively on your overall presentation.
Practice, practice, practice
Presenting to other people is not easy! It takes practice and will get easier the more you do it.
