Firstly, we will have a friendly and informal chat to find out what you are interested in. It is not an interview and there are no complicated forms to fill in. If you are not sure which course to take, we can even arrange short taster sessions to help you choose.
All courses are practical and activity-based. Tutors are friendly and here to help you do well. Every Oakmere student has their own mentor, who will meet regularly with you and help you to achieve your goals.
The Student Services Team is here to offer information advice and guidance. Their door is always open. We can provide extra support to help you on course, ranging from; reading and writing, drug and alcohol counselling to money management skills.
All our courses are free and you may be entitled to up to £30 per week EMA (Educational Maintenance Allowance). All overalls are provided free of charge. We can also help with travel and childcare costs. You could even earn reward bonuses for good attendance, behaviour and achievement.
Your progress will be recognised at special award ceremonies. You can build up reward points which can be spent on fun activities such as go-karting, pamper days and powerboating. You could even be nominated for the chance to sail around the Caribbean! See the Extras and reward page for more information (coming soon).
On completion of your programme, you will either move into employment, an apprenticeship or continue to study at a higher level in further education. Specialist progression staff will support and advise you at this stage.
