Course Content
The catering department is a working and learning kitchen, giving you the opportunity to not only prepare, present and serve the college but the busy Conference Centre too. This allows further development beyond the qualification units making us different to a lot of other catering courses out there. You will be preparing and serving hot and cold buffets for sometimes up to 100 conference delegates. However, it is not all hard work and no play; you will take part in great challenges including our own twist on Master Chef, Blind Box Challenge and learn the art of baking including bread and cake decoration. Catering has a strong team spirit and welcomes all new starts. You will have the opportunity to develop your culinary, team working and customer service skills.

Level 2 Certificate in Personal Development for Employability

  • Self-management Skills
  • Principles of Providing a Counter and Takeaway Service
  • Safe, Hygienic and Secure Working Environments in Hospitality
  • Principles of how to maintain an efficient use of resources in the kitchen
  • Principles of Preparing and Clearing Areas for Table Service
  • Principles of setting up and closing the kitchen
  • Service of Food at Table
  • Planning an Enterprise Activity
  • Running an Enterprise Activity

You can progress with us to Level 2 after achieving Level 1. We encourage in house progression to employment including kitchen porter, kitchen technician and lead commis chef. As well as this you could progress on to Level 3, apprenticeships and employment.
